Arabian Peninsula | Major Asian Peninsulas


In the earlier "Arabian Peninsula | Major Asian Peninsulas" article on the peninsula I described that peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water from three sides, also covered the European peninsulas. Now we’ll see Asian peninsulas briefly. 

Arabian Peninsula

Arabian Peninsula is world largest peninsula. Saudi Arab, Yemen, Oman, Qatar, UAE and Kuwait are all part of it.  Saudi Arabia is the largest country of the peninsula covering about 80% of the peninsula. The Arabian Desert has covered almost all of the desert. The peninsula is the birthplace of one of the world major religion Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  Most of the peninsula is sandy desert and full of black gold (oil reserves).  It also the major part of Middle East. Indian (Deccan) Peninsula

It is arguably the second largest peninsula, part of the Indian subcontinent and consisting of Deccan plateau.  It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.

Indochina Peninsula

Indochina Peninsula in South East Asia is one of the largest peninsulae in the world. It is named after the historical influence of China and India at here. It comprises of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and (variably) Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. 

Malay Peninsula 

 It is a sub-peninsula of Indochina peninsula, consist of peninsular Malaysia southern tail of Thailand, most south-east Burma and Singapore.

Korean Peninsula

The Korean peninsula is consist of both South and North Korea. Most of the Korean peninsula is mountainous. It is surrounded by the Sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea and Korea Strait. The peninsula is one of the most militarized zones in the world.

Caspian Sea Peninsulas

Mangyshlak Peninsula is largest Caspian Sea Peninsula, Krasnovodsk is another major peninsula of Caspian sea.

Taymyr Peninsula

The Taymyr Peninsula is the far northern Russian peninsula, surrounded by Yenisei Gulf, the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea.

The Chukchi Peninsula 

Chukotka Peninsula is located at the eastern tip of Russia, it is easternmost part of continental Asia as well. It is bounded by the Chukchi Sea, the Bering Sea and Bering Strait.

Kamchatka Peninsula

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located at Far East Russia. As It exists on the famous volcanic Ring of Fire (ring of volcanic ranges along the Pacific coasts) it is full of active volcanos and craters. It is surrounded by Sea of Okhotsk, Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. Its climate is cold and snowy. Thus sparsely populated but the Russian government has recently offered some lucrative packages to encourage new settlement at here. 

Shandong Peninsula

Shandong Peninsula is the largest Chinese Peninsula surrounded by the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea. The peninsula remained under Empirical Japan’s control in the 2oth till the end of the Second World War. It is located in the east China province Shandong. 

Leizhou Peninsula

Leizhou is the third largest peninsula of China, forming the most southern part of mainland China penetrating into the water towards Hainan peninsula. It is surrounded by Gulf of Tonkin and Hainan Strait. Other famous Chinese peninsulas are Liaodong Peninsula, Peninsulas of Hainan, Macau Peninsula and Peninsulas of Hong Kong‎.
